Cat Pet Care

I love cats but until now I never had a cat before since my parents hate it.They think the poop are stink and need a lot of attention.Hey,I’m 15 and take good care of my pets (rabbit, hamsters, red ear slider, fishes, water dragon etc)well.Well, about the poop,I guess they are right. My neighbor have 3 cats at his house and all the 4 cats poop at my house and not theirs! But their house are quite gross.Grass are way too long that if you put a hamster there,it will trap inside the “jungle” and rubbish everywhere. They just love cats and not the environment.

Back to Q,I love to do homework alone without people disturbing me but deep inside I need a companion such as cats to pat at my lap while doing homework so it release my tension.I heard that cat know their name and love being with their owners,is that true?Believe me,I’m not like other children who at first love and then ignored their pets.Do cats have to wear harness like dogs?

Will it bite me randomly?I decided to have a kitten so it will be more tame than adults.Any tips?Oh and, should I get a male or female kitten?(I don’t want my cat pregnant though but I’ll never let my cats alone outside without my supervise because there are just too many wild cats and dogs)

I live in a double story house so can a kitten/cat climb the stairs?Iowned a rabbit too.Is it possible that they can fight? How to introduce the new pet to my rabbit?Thank you for answering.

Is there any services or place that can take care of cats/dogs while joining the military/off to boot camp? preferably around the LA area.

Pet connection.com has a warning from ASPCa about Acetaminophen in cat and dog food and it is in the food that has been recalled and food that is not on the list and people need to make sure their pets are ok. They have not listed the food yet that is involved in this recall. I wanted to let people know because they care about their pets. It affects cats more then dogs.
Go read Pet connection.com and it is on their right now.

We gripe alot about the many, many questions we get from people who can’t afford vets, have pregnant cats, and cats who are made to live outside. We give our good advice hoping to save the cat’s life as well as the lives of other cats in the case of pregnancy. Then we find out our questioner is 14 years old. I have received countless emails from these kids saying they would love to do the right thing and take their kitty to a vet, have her spayed, or bring her inside but their parents won’t allow it. Sometimes I feel bad because I was very blunt with my answer only to find out it was a kid whose hands are tied to do anything. Why do parents allow their children to have pets if they aren’t going to take care of it? They are the ones with the checkbooks and cars so without their help, the kids have no way of caring for their pets. Not having money for a vet is no excuse. When a person takes in a pet they become responsible for it’s care, bottom line.

Neglect such as refusing to get medical treatment for a sick animal is illegal. Could forcing a child to participate in this neglect be a form of child abuse?

ok so i just adopted a pet after finding a stray. So, i need really good advice because this is my first cat all theother cats are my moms.

I might be moving and my dad hates rodents, I have a cat that doesn’t like change. My mom doesn’t want me to have a pet, but I answered a ton of questions here, and 60% of the questions I answered were voted best answer, but she still doesn’t want me to have a pet!!! God, she’s driving me crazy!!!!

We live in a house owned by my fiance’s grandma. She is currently in a nursing home so we are just staying here so the house isn’t empty. The family is trying to sell the home and this has been used as a reason we cannot get a dog or cat as they fear it will tear up the house, carpet, etc. We have tried many times over the past year to get a dog or cat without success.
Just recently we were asked to cat sit for one of my fiance’s sisters friends. When asked I immediately said that it has to go through the warden (fiance’s mom) because of all the issues about this in the past. Come to find out it was her idea and not only did the owner want to find someone to cat sit, but also wants to find someone to take the cat as well. She rescued it a couple of months ago as it was homeless around her neighborhood and it has been living in her bathroom. This poor thing isn’t very sociable, she is a sweet heart, but not used to being loved and doesn’t even know how to play as I have gotten her all kinds of cat toys. We have been working with her and have fallen in love as well as her with us and I do not want her to have to go back to live in a bathroom and be isolated. I have it set in my heart that I am going to stand up to the “mother in-law” and say she is no going back. It was her idea and the cat has not destroyed anything.
I also work for a pet store and feel that if for any reason the cat doesn’t work out living here at any point in time, I will have no problem finding it a wonderful home.
I need some advise on the above – should I do what it takes to stand up to the warden? What else can I say?

I also need advice on cat care and maybe how I can get her to warm up and possibly play with her toys (she doesn’t even know what they are!). I do work for a pet store and plan on asking advice from some co-workers, but reptiles and birds are my personal “specialty”

Thank you in advance for any advice.
Thank you all for your answers/advice thus far! As I said I do plan on standing up to the “warden”, I just thought some advice here would help with the extra guts that I am going to need =). I did buy all kinds of toys for her… little mice, some balls, and those feather teasers. She just runs the other way any time I touch them. I figured it will take time for her to warm up to what she is supposed to and can do with them. My guess is that since she was homeless and then lived in a bathroom she doesn’t know how to play and what cat toys are. She has warmed up to us quite a bit!! She has spent the last two nights in our bed and she pures so loud you would think a motor boat is starting up =) She is so precious and my honey has already named her. Keep the answers coming and thanks again.
