universal health-SCARE?

What? Hillary is a farce. Bill was elected promising universal health care. The Congress was democratic. Eighty percent of the public was behind it. The economy could easily support it. Yet her program was 100% failure. She had another 6 years to try to revive it. Let’s hear the excuse for 8 years of failure on her supposed pet program – when her husband was the president no less. Now there’s an election, she’s promising you healthcare again just like Bill did – with an unworkable mandatory plan. The theory is that if you can fool them once, you can always fool them. As Geffen says, "the Clintons lie with such ease, it’s troubling". and the NY Times’ William Safire called her a "congenital liar". Hillary flunked healthcare. She flunked Iraq. She flunked Iran. She even flunked the Washington bar exam twice, and is a serial failure as a housewife. That’s her record – her so-called experience. Vote Obama.

what is a good low maintenance apartment pet?

I would like a pet, my aparment allows everything except dogs. I am a student, but i am very responsible and have been working in the animal care area a lot. I go to a school famous for veterenary medicine, there are no shortages of animal health care here. I’m positive I will provide an optimum environment, but I would also like something low maintanence because I’m still a student? Mabey someting small?
maybe hamster, lizard, betta? what do you think?
i really would like a cat. I’ve always wanted one but my family hates cats. But I live alone now! Any students have cats, can you tell me how they do with your schedule? I have a pretty stable scheduale. Leave at eight and back at six from classes I get my homework done at school with study groups. I work nine to five on weekends. I go out probably only once or twice a week.

A legal question for people who work professionally in the pet care field?

I asked this in another section and got no response so I’ll give it a try in Dogs :)

If an individual is employed by a small pet care business, like a grooming salon, but is paid under the table, can that individual be covered by the business owner’s liability insurance?

My gut tells me that the answer is no. However, I’ve always worked independently so I never had to deal with insurance issues in regards to employees. My knowledge on the subject isn’t complex.

For example, if the "off the books" employee accidentally caused injury to one of the animals being groomed, would the business owner be held responsible or the employee? Alternatively, if the employee is injured on the job, does the employee have any recourse?
Save me the racism and the moral analysis :)

Suppose Obama breaks our country catastrophically. To what country would you flee?

So let’s say national health care costs more than expected, and Obama tries to fund it with T deficits. The Chinese get restless and cause another bank run like happened last September. Now our money is worthless and looters are looking for food. Being a savvy conservative, you have some money in physical gold. But you need to leave the country. Where do you go?

It’s not the only way Obama could wreck us but it’s my pet favorite. Add your own anecdote for extra credit.

Will there ever come a day when Vets will stop selling bad pet food?

It really bothers people who know how bad Hills and Royal Canin prescription food is when a vet sells it and pushes it on pet owners who know no better. Will Vets ever come together and take a stand against these horrible pet "food" companies and refuse to sell it? I know they make 40% profit off the food but they should care more about the health of pets. Don’t people become Vets because they love animals?
@catherin.. and Mariji…
hmm let’s see:
One of Royal Canin’s ingredient list:
ROYAL CANIN Veterinary Diet canine Hypoalergenic HP 19
"Rice, soy protein isolate hydrolysate, chicken fat, natural flavors, beet pulp, vegetable oil…"
Those are the top ingredients. What happened to meat?

Hills:
Presciption Diet D&D:
Potato, Potato Starch, Venison, Potato Protein, Pork Fat , Soybean Oil (preserved with BHA, propyl gallate and citric acid)…"
Pork fat??? BHA?? BHA is BANNED for use in human food because it is a carcinogen(causes cancer).

So how is it that Hills and Royal Canin are good foods??

If my PET ROCK ran for President, would he win against the candidates running now?

His platform in part would be: he’s against abortion (throwing little pebbles in a dumpster or in the water), people would adopt other rocks at no charge & get paid for it; All single rocks would marry a stone & vice versa; complete health care for all rocks & pebbles (cleaned & polished daily); unemployment eliminated (no work in rock quarries for humans); no illegal rocks, stones, & boulders crossing the borders seeking land to lay on; people with rocks in their head for brains will have to give up those rocks by educating themselves bettter so the rocks in their head will be intelligent. Just a few of the things my pet rock would do if elected President of America or is it Rockamerica? Any other issues my pet rock (named Rocky) can do to better America?

Trustworthy pet insurance?

I am looking for pet insurance providers for my 2 year old pure-bred Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He is neutered and has never had any vet care needs besides check-ups and vaccines (read: he is healthy).

They should provide co-pay instead of reimbursement, and accident and illness coverage (preferably also wellness). Ideally, I would like to pay less than a month, or 0 a year. Everything I have found so far that would cover wellness is over a month and expects me to pay up front and then be reimbursed. It isn’t a huge difference, but I am trying to find the best coverage that allows me to simply show a card or give a number instead of fuss with paying in full – potentially thousands of dollars – and then being paid back later.

DemoLibs? Shouldn't health care be extended to pets too? I mean why not?

Shouldn’t the poor be allowed to keep pets and have all their pets expenses payed, including food? Isn’t it unfair to deny them this?

Should income affect pet ownership?

Reading through answers, I’ve found the recurrent message: "If you can’t afford to take your pet to the vet, you shouldn’t have one." Every time I read it, I’m troubled.

Obviously in an ideal world every person, not to mention every animal, would have access to health care. But in the meantime, we compromise.

Is it fair to criticize low-income people for having pets (leaving the question of children aside)? Obviously there are practical limits; if you can’t afford to feed an animal, obviously you won’t be able to keep it. But if you can provide a loving home, and can afford basics like food and water (and perhaps one-off fixed costs like neutering), isn’t that a reasonable compromise? Isn’t that better for an animal than life (or death) in a shelter, or as a stray?

I assume that most people on this forum are reasonably affluent. But I believe that sometimes people who can’t afford professional help come here for amateur advice, and should be given that advice, not a reproach.
