My dad has one of his friends daughters taking care of our dogs for 5 days while we are out of town. This girl- i am not too comfortable with because last time she babysat my little sis, her friends came to pick her up early and sat on our lawn in their car for like 2 hours and left marks all over!!! She has also cancelled babysitting once because she had something to do….
It’s not that this girl is not nice but i am EXTREMELY clost to my doggies and i am very protective of them. no one except my really closse friend in college has taken care of them, and she is one of my BFFs (except she like 6 yrs older than me, still….) I am still not comfortable but we are leaving this evening. I have tried talking to my dad but he will not listen and says he knows her well and that shes nice. And she’s just gottan a puppy and walks it very often and everything like that but i really don’t trust her with my puppy..
!) What should i do?
!) Wat can i do to make myself more comftorble if dad don’t change his mind?!?!??!
PS: My dad is not going on the vacation bcuz of work but my mom is still my dad came up with using her as a dog sitter baisically cuz she’s close and he claims that she is nice.
My two male not nurtured dogs got into a very vicious fight an hour ago. My mom owns one dog (But I take care of its so its basically my pet) (Shih’tzu 8 years old) and my sister owns the other who is a German Shepperd. My dog Bandit has always had a very serious attitude and unfortunately when my sister was younger she hurt the dog quite a few times to the point where he would bark aggressively at my sister whenever she came near and eventually would bark at anyone who came near me when I was laying down, but despite that he has always been gentle and nice to me. Yeah my sis wasnt a nice person.
My sisters dog toby is about a year and he has come to stay with us for a while because my sisters apartment wouldn’t allow him, he constantly barked.
Anyway the two dogs seemed to get along alright at first but whenever I was laying down and toby approached me Bandit would growl at Toby. Usually they would cut it out with a few stern “NO”s But in the past few months they have gotten into 3 physical fights. The first one wasn’t too bad because my brother seperated them quickly. The second one I was alone with them (i’m a girl) and I was terrified because Toby had bandit by the neck and wouldn’t let go and I had a very hard time pullying them apart. I’ve been trying to get them to be nicer by giving them treats when they play nice with each other and get them seperated for a few days between the fights.
The third fight which happened tonight terrified me more. I was alone again and my brother out with friends. I was laying down and bandit was by my feet when toby came over. I turned to see bandit growl but before I could do anything toby pounced on bandit. I honestly screamed because I thought toby was going to kill my dog, as I was trying to get them off each nothing I was doing was working and bandit was literally get thrashed back and forth like a rag doll.
I know you aren’t suppose to ever put your hands by their mouths but I was panicking and getting tired and couldn’t seem to separate them, I made a stupid decision but I felt nothing else would work and grabbed Tobys muzzle and pried his mouth off bandits neck/shoulder, when I got them off Bandit bit me twice in the hand by accident but I managed to drag toby down and bandit eventually backed off and went the other side.
I pulled toby out of the room and outside. Bandit seemed okay but I noticed blood on his fur (not a lot but it was there) I realized then I was bleeding and went to the bathroom and pored alcohol over the wounds (twice) before calling my brother and picking him up. I thought about going to the hospital but I don’t have insurance.
The wounds dont seem deep but I’m worried about rabies. I don’t remember when Bandit last got his shots for rabies, I think it might have been 3-4 years ago. ( I know that he should have been to the vet sooner but my mom hasn’t had money for it lately) I mean I haven’t noticed any signs besides the fighting between the two male dogs.
I’m worried I might have rabies but it seems unlikely? What should I do, both dogs are calm now, toby is in the living room in his crate and bandit in my room (He is a bit banged up but otherwise okay) Is it possible my dog has rabies because of the recent fighting or is it because they are both not nurtured?
Also should I call my sister and tell her I can no longer keep toby here because of the fighting?
My hands kind of hurt and I’m really upset about this whole situation because normally Toby is such a sweet dog who wouldn’t hurt anyone and Bandit usually listens when I tell him no.

I have wanted a dog my whole life, but Im not alowed to get one, becasue my mom doesnt like them Im trying to think of another fun pet becasue here is the list she gave me of what pets I cant have
NO: hamsters,birds,mice,cats,dogs,rats, and I dont want a fish cuz they are boring.
So is there anything else?
I was thinking a guinea pig, but are they hard to take care of?

I might be moving and my dad hates rodents, I have a cat that doesn’t like change. My mom doesn’t want me to have a pet, but I answered a ton of questions here, and 60% of the questions I answered were voted best answer, but she still doesn’t want me to have a pet!!! God, she’s driving me crazy!!!!
We live in a house owned by my fiance’s grandma. She is currently in a nursing home so we are just staying here so the house isn’t empty. The family is trying to sell the home and this has been used as a reason we cannot get a dog or cat as they fear it will tear up the house, carpet, etc. We have tried many times over the past year to get a dog or cat without success.
Just recently we were asked to cat sit for one of my fiance’s sisters friends. When asked I immediately said that it has to go through the warden (fiance’s mom) because of all the issues about this in the past. Come to find out it was her idea and not only did the owner want to find someone to cat sit, but also wants to find someone to take the cat as well. She rescued it a couple of months ago as it was homeless around her neighborhood and it has been living in her bathroom. This poor thing isn’t very sociable, she is a sweet heart, but not used to being loved and doesn’t even know how to play as I have gotten her all kinds of cat toys. We have been working with her and have fallen in love as well as her with us and I do not want her to have to go back to live in a bathroom and be isolated. I have it set in my heart that I am going to stand up to the “mother in-law” and say she is no going back. It was her idea and the cat has not destroyed anything.
I also work for a pet store and feel that if for any reason the cat doesn’t work out living here at any point in time, I will have no problem finding it a wonderful home.
I need some advise on the above – should I do what it takes to stand up to the warden? What else can I say?
I also need advice on cat care and maybe how I can get her to warm up and possibly play with her toys (she doesn’t even know what they are!). I do work for a pet store and plan on asking advice from some co-workers, but reptiles and birds are my personal “specialty”

Thank you all for your answers/advice thus far! As I said I do plan on standing up to the “warden”, I just thought some advice here would help with the extra guts that I am going to need =). I did buy all kinds of toys for her… little mice, some balls, and those feather teasers. She just runs the other way any time I touch them. I figured it will take time for her to warm up to what she is supposed to and can do with them. My guess is that since she was homeless and then lived in a bathroom she doesn’t know how to play and what cat toys are. She has warmed up to us quite a bit!! She has spent the last two nights in our bed and she pures so loud you would think a motor boat is starting up =) She is so precious and my honey has already named her. Keep the answers coming and thanks again.
